Weather conditions are hot and humid during the summer months in Savannah and the Coastal Lowlands. Temperatures for the month of July may reach the upper nineties and be accompanied by high levels of humidity. Many evenings are punctuated by brief thunderstorms that drop the temperature by about ten degrees.
Please note that some of the Landmark Sites do not have air conditioning. Summer Scholars will be expected to walk relatively short distances during parts of the tour of Savannah, at Penn Center and at Sapelo Island. The bus on Sapelo Island is not air conditioned. Water bottles, hats, sun screen and sun glasses are recommended for excursions. The hotel is air conditioned and participants should have sweaters or light jackets to accommodate the change in temperature.
